posted 10/25/05On a whim, I started clapotis from knitty.com with pink ribbon yarn. It's not the drapiest material to be using, but I am hoping it will come out lovely once I get to the stitch dropping section. If it comes out as nice as I hope, I will give it to mom for Christmas instead of knitting her a shawl. I'll post pictures of it in progress when I get a moment.
I discovered the ultimate sign of being addicted to knitting yesterday... I knit during lunchtime, and I had 10 minutes left of good knitting time but had to pee *so* badly. The last thing I was going to do, though, was to get up and waste that last 10 minutes of decent knitting time. I'm such a dork, and will probably regret holding things later in life when I am 80 and elderly.
Update of what's currently on the needles:
*clapotis (possibly for mom)
*rabbit tracks scarf for dee
*a little something something for jenna, but i can't say since she reads this lj
*a baby blanket for chris and brenda's baby
*branching out from knitty (which I won't work on more until the Christmas stuff is done)
*initial bag from SnBN... which has been in progress for a year and I still haven't finished the damn thing.
Update of what still needs to be done before Christmas:
*two moebius scarves... one for Millie and one for Gayer
*rabbit tracks scarf for Phoebe
*Dave's Buddha doily thingy-do.
*Basketweave scarf for my family's Christmas Yankee swap
*Whatever needs to be done for Seth's family but since we haven't drawn names yet... *sigh* I'm thinking probably scarves with some nice cashmere blend yarn.
*little Ducky socks and hat for baby Squishy
*cardigan for Roo
*something special for Cass
*laughs*
And I thought I was doing so well on starting early. I need about 20 more hours in my day.
posted 10/17/05How exciting... and I've got a bunch of goodies to show! huzzah!
I decided to get a jump on my knitting for the holidays early this year since I procrastinated until after Thanksgiving last year and then had to bust my ass (and pull a lot of late nights) to get everything done. The struggle this year will be to finish the gifts and stop starting things for myself. Most of the gifts for my friends will be scarves... I made many of them hats last year, so I thought it would be nice to make them scarves that happened to match their hats. It is also a great stash buster since I would have no other purpose for most of this yarn otherwise. All of the scarf patterns came from links found on knittingpatterncentral.com.
First up, this is a V-Stitch scarf for my boss. I used Caron Simply Soft in off-white, but my friend Dee instists that the color should be renamed "butter." It was nice to work with for this project (Simply Soft is the only acrylic yarn I will use for anything)

and because I cannot pull my camera out without Camilla jumping into the picture, here is a random kitty pose...

Second is a scarf that I just finished this evening for my friend Jess. I also used Caron Simply Soft for this... the color is navy or something of the sort. The pattern was called the Old Shale Mohair Scarf, but I didn't use mohair. The Simply Soft worked pretty well, and the pattern is super easy (if you want to learn some lace techniques, this is easy peasy), but I admit that even though it worked up pretty fast, I was kind of bored and got easily distracted (which also means I had to frog about 10 times).

And because I had this nasty habit of starting projects without finishing the ones I already have on the needles, here are two that I kind of did for myself. The first is a One Skein Wonder, but because I am a dope, I measured my shoulders while I had clothes on and it ended up being too big. The upside is that it fit my mom perfectly, and she thought it was really cool. It was made from some left over black Woolease I had from knitting the SnB Kittyville hat last year. I probably look a little pained in the picture since I am trying to hold as straight as possible so it looks like it actually fits. The second is Knitty's Coronet and my first cabling project. I love this pattern! The cables don't show the best due to the varigation of the yarn, but it also helped to cover up a couple of mistakes I know are in there somewhere. This is hand dyed/ hand spun wool yarn I purchased at the Commonground Fair last month.

I tried to get a better picture of the cables by sticking it on my husband's head while he played with his PSP. I don't think he was impressed.

I've still got Knitty's Branching Out on the needles, but since I've decided to make that for me, that won't be done anytime soon. I also have jenna's project in progress and a baby blanket done in basketweave stitch for Chris and Brenda's baby due in December. The downside is that I'm not sure that Chris will even be able to fly being so pregnant, so the baby probably won't get the blanket until I end up shipping it to California. Maybe Brenda will still fly out for the holiday.
posted 9/24/05:as promised, here are some of my current projects... and some yarn porn!first, my finished blanket for my cousin's wedding. i posted pics before, but i figured i post another anyway.

for the wedding, i knitted up 4 teeny tiny felted totes for my bridesmaids. i *love* the pattern, but wanted to do a little more with it. after playing around with some modifications, i took one into work to show a friend and had a co-worker ask me if i would be willing to make one for her to buy. after consulting with sarah (the original designer of the ttft), we agreed the pattern changes i made were enough for it to be my own creation, thus i could charge my time without violating the original pattern license. i still haven't felted it yet, but i'm hoping to get to it this week.
first, pictures of the teeny tiny felted tote... pre felting... and second, two pictures of my bag after the modifications. the number of stitches are different, the bottom is doubled, the handles are different, the button hole/ flap are different. both bags were done with knitpicks wool of the andes.

my most intricate project is knitty's branching out... my first ever lace project. i'm using knitpicks gossamer, which is incredibly wonderful to work with. the downside is that it comes in hanks, and i cannot wind a center pull ball to save my life. enter sara's yarn contraption! i wound the yarn very carefully around a plastic cup (kind of like a spool). i then set the cup upside down over a brass candleholder i have.

ta da! the cup spins as the yarn is pulled, and nothing gets tangled. and here is the pattern so far:

and finally, i went to the commonground fair today to get some handspun yarn... here is some gorgeous wool blend:

i'm going to knit a winter hat with one color and maybe do a One Skein Wonder with the other.
posted 3/27/05:and hurrah for finally getting my shite together and getting this lj up and running.
this is going to be my knitting and crocheting blog... i admit that i don't know how often i will be updating since i'm not planning on taking on any new projects until the blanket i am crocheting for danielle's wedding is done. is it bad, though, that i have already thought of about 6 or 7 projects i want to start next?
i've got all of my christmas knitting and crocheting projects on film, but since i also have undeveloped film from 2001, who knows when i will get around to posting those pics. someday, i suppose.
so here are the two projects i do have pictures for...the famous kittyville hat from stitch and bitch...
*picture was uploaded to an old server... need to upload again*
...this was my first knitting project using both a circular needle and dpns. interesting experience, but i think it came out alright....
and here is my current pride and joy.

this is the blanket i am crocheting for my cousin danielle. my parents were originally going to take it with them to the wedding (it's in california), but since they leave in about 2 weeks and i am only half done, i will have to just ship it once it's complete. at the rate i am progressing on it, that should take until next november. *snicker* here is it far away... and the next is a close up of the stiches. i'm using an "h" hook and caron's simply soft yarn in off white with an occasional strip of blue. the name of it is "sunshine and lace" since the blanket was designed to be done with bright yellow red heart (thus the star like shapes would look like little suns), but i think with the off white it looks more like snowflakes. i found the pattern by searching on google, but i believe the original source came from crochet magazine.
