Pre-drafting
So I wholeheartedly admit that I am a pre-drafting dummy. No matter how I try to work it, my roving always looks kind of like a blob of chaos. So I need some help. I've googled for pre-drafting tutorials and although there are mentions here and there, I haven't been able to find something that really shows me how to do it. Any readers out there know of online tutorials?? I really want to spin something thinner, but without pre-drafting I know I'm going to be stuck with bulky weight!

Apparently we need to get together soon for some pre-drafting fun! That is if my schedule ever opens up. I just realized I can't got to Fiber Frolic this year since I'll be just getting back from Miami on Friday and Saturday is my only day home before going to a conference in New Hampshire on Sunday. So while I COULD go to the Frolic I'm pretty sure my body will protest against it.
I wish I lived closer to show you in person. Now that I've finally figured it out, I've been spinning like crazy. Do you split your roving lengthwise to thin it in half, then in half again? That's how I do it. If possible, I do it once more, to get 8 long pieces. And, then, gently give little tugs as you work your way down the length of it. I use a basket underneath to catch it as I go along. It takes about 1/2 hour or so to do a full four ounces.
I just pull it apart in pencil sized sections or thinner. Then I line them up so they are close at hand. It will come, just take your time.
